Engagement

Sunset Cliffs, San Diego

Kelli & Kyle wanted their engagement photos somewhere that closely resembled Hawaii so their Save the Dates match their upcoming wedding. When I think of Hawaii I think of cascading green mountains with waterfalls, golden beaches and cliffs overlooking the ocean. October in San Diego means most of our waterfalls have dried up and those once luscious green hills are now light brown so our cliffside beaches were our next best bet!

If you’ve been to Sunset Cliffs, especially during sunset, you know these cliffs can be swarming with people. Luckily enough, we managed to have this entire section of the beach to ourselves.

I scouted the area a few days prior to their session and knew we’d have to do a bit of climbing / rock scrambling to get to one of our locations. Kelli & Kyle didn’t flinch when I told them they should take off their shoes to start climbing through the cliffs. They trusted my vision and knowledge of the landscape and that’s truly all I can ask for!

We ended the session with champagne and blurry vision while looking for the green flash. Cheers to a lifetime of adventures with your dog, Frito!

* If you’re planning to bring a dog to your session, I always recommend bringing treats or their favorite toy and a friend or family member to help! I usually only need 5-10 minutes total with the dog focused so it’s nice to have someone close by to help when they get restless.
